Case Study
Anna Abdelnoor,
Co-Founder, Isla (Sustainable Events Industry Body)
What’s your role?
I’m Co-Founder of Isla, Isla is an independent events industry non-profit. We support industry level transformation, helping businesses get to net zero. It means generating impetus, incentive and excitement in a space where awareness and education is very low.
What was going on for you with your work that inspired you to join the programme?
It can feel very overwhelming to be aware of the crisis at hand, but see how industries move and how slowly people respond. Coaching was an opportunity to look at where I could control and where I needed to accept certain things so I could move forward without feeling like it was like moving uphill.
How are you feeling now?
I give myself credit for the work I'm doing. I recognise that there is a tremendous amount of work we’re doing and it's a journey that we are going on as a business. It's not a straight line, it's going to wiggle all over the place. But as long as generally moving forward, then that's a good thing.
What's tangibly different for you?
What I took away from it was conviction in how I want to move forward. Whilst there's kind of some big challenges ahead, I feel like I've had the space to rationalise. The outcome of that is confidence to move forward with a plan of action that ultimately will better the organisation and better my ability to lead.
What's your biggest takeaway?
I found having dedicated space in the day for me, where I wasn’t thinking about what I need to do next, but just to slow down and reset incredibly important. To get some distance and some perspective.
Any last thoughts?
If you’re on the fence, it's just about taking a leap. You never know if it's gonna be the right thing for you or not until you try it. So give it a go.
