Program Lead, Biodiversity & Conservation

What’s your role?
I work for a global systems change consultancy. I'm Program Lead focusing entirely on conservation, biodiversity, protection and restoration of nature. The biggest challenge is the lack of meaningful financing mechanisms for protection and restoration. So, I make the case for the link between healthy functioning ecosystems and our economy.
What was going on for you with your work that inspired you to join the programme?
For me, this was about figuring out how to make the most effective contribution. I was searching for the fit between my unique set of experiences and passions, to optimise how I can most closely, most efficiently align the unique package of skills I bring for maximum impact.
How were you feeling at the outset?
Like my specific skills, experiences and passions weren't as lined up with as it needed to be for me to feel I was making the most of the opportunities that I have to make a difference.
I was also feeling pretty exhausted, feeling the weight of pressure and expectation that I put on myself. That can drag you down rather than help you create a step up that you can build on.
How are you feeling now?
I'm clear about the path forward and how to make it happen but for me, the biggest change is in my energy and enthusiasm, to go again and really embrace and face the challenges. There's just been a huge reduction in the noise of negativity and distraction. I understand how to manage my energy so it can be deployed effectively.
Have you got any examples of what's tangibly different for you?
I have tools and techniques to actually take command and take control of my energy and the way the programme works means they're actually embedded and they're incredibly empowering and inspiring, they opened a huge number of possibilities.
Without this, I'd be wasting a lot more time and energy on the negative things and the distractions and less time taking steps towards impact.
What's your biggest takeaway?
I had a big eyes wide open moment about the power of how we can utilise and tap into the power of the mind for positive impact. It was a real eureka moment, because it allows you to optimise for impact and not get dragged down and distracted by external factors.
Any last thoughts?
I’d recommend this to anyone who is looking for practical, tangible ways to bring your most powerful, effective self to the impact you want to make.
These are human caused problems that will be solved by human beings through ingenuity through energy through passionate collaboration, and Claire's work is about very human, authentic conversations. This is exactly what we need.
